How do you stay creative?
Sometimes it can be really hard! I am pretty introverted (I know, you wouldn't know if you met me at a market), so I spend a lot of time exploring our city! I like the mountains best, but beaches and bike rides are pretty nice too. There are a lot of great examples of design, if you just open yourself up to it. Oh - and instagram. Where would I be without instagram!? I follow a lot of creatives and I'm often interacting with them to build on ideas and flush out designs
What is the most challenging part of your business?
I often find the work-life-balance the most challenging. As a full-time entrepreneur, I find it very difficult to turn work off. It's hard to step away and take time for myself! One big thing I did do this year, was move into a studio in Gastown, shared with two of the loveliest friends and they're also entrepreneurs. We encourage each other to get in early and leave at an appropriate hour too.
What do you wish your customers knew about you?
I wish my customers knew I'm self-made! Many assume I went to school to become a jeweller or designer, but I'm not. I am entirely a graduate of Google-till you figure it out. A jane of all trades!
Time to get mushy - how did you feel when you made your very first sale?
Like this was the start of something beautiful. It was in 2009 and I didn't know ANYTHING about Etsy or online sales, or product photography! But somebody thought my product was the one for them. They found a connection with something I made with my hands .. and well, I was hooked.
What makes the Etsy: Made In Canada market special?
C-O-M-M-U-N-I-T-Y We are all makers, we are all working and hustling hard, and more often than not, we are all very friendly together! We take care of each other when someone needs to pee, we share snacks and offer tips and advice, and it makes the market strong and competitive. I just love it.
Will you have any new products or designs at this year’s Made In Canada market?
On of my biggest commitments to myself and to my clients is to always keep things fresh. My best sellers will (hopefully) always be available, but each season my goal is to introduce at least four to six new designs. That's earrings, necklaces, lapel pins, temporary tattoos, you name it!
I can't give it all away, but here are some hints for the new designs.
Design 1. It will melt!
Design 2. Minnie Mouse wears one on her head.
Design 3. It's a heavenly scent you breathe when you're not feeling well.
As for the rest, you'll have to come see!

Etsy: Made In Canada in a nutshell
Etsy: Made in Canada is a national, community-led initiative celebrating the crafters, collectors and artisans in local communities across the country. From coast to coast, Canadian cities and towns will be participating in these events powered by local Etsy Teams. Popping up in 40 cities, Etsy artisans will sell their handmade wares, vintage goods and supplies to local buyers at these marketplaces, each representing the spirit of the local community.
Vendors are selected for each marketplace by a jury of Etsy Team members in their respective location. The BriteUp - Etsy YVR team is organizing and curating the Vancouver market, which is highly competitive to be accepted into. The vendors you will find here are some of the most unique, creative and talented Etsy makers in the greater Vancouver area.
An Annual Canada Wide Event
Thousands of Etsy artisans will be participating in this year’s event. Popping up in over 40 cities across Canada on the same weekend makes this market a truly National affair that communities look forward to each year. Find the market closest to you
